Do you have fears about going to the dentist? Do you break into a sweat at the thought of making a dental appointment? If this describes your reaction to dental care, this could be a new day for you! It’s time to learn about safe sedation dentistry in our Dallas area office.
If routine dental exams make your heart pound, rest assured you’re not alone. Dental anxiety is extremely common and potentially debilitating. We hear from our patients all the time about how fearful and anxious they were before coming to our office.
At Gregory Allen Kerbel DDS, PLLC our dedicated staff and expert dentists work hard to make sure that each patient is relaxed and at ease when they’re in our care. To help you maintain a gorgeous smile, we want to make sure you’re completely happy with your experience with us.
One of the ways we do that is through sedation. If you’ve never taken advantage of this in the dental office, then you’re in for a whole new world of dentistry. How would you like to have your procedure completed with no fear or anxiety? It’s possible with sedation.
Call our East Dallas office today at 972-360-9944 to schedule your next visit and take advantage of expertly administered dental sedation.
Learn More About Our Sedation Options
Dr. Kerbel and his staff believe in giving our patients choices. That’s why we offer not just one, but two different types of calming sedation to ease your mind and help you relax during your procedure.
Another big reason we offer more than one kind of sedation is because people respond differently to sedation methods. A method that works well for one patient may not be suitable for another. While we want you to relax and be free from anxiety, we have options available so we don’t give you more sedation than you actually need.
You can choose from either nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) or oral conscious sedation. Whether you’re here for a teeth cleaning and exam or experience a dental emergency, we have the tools you need to get rid of anxiety and tension.
Nitrous oxide is the milder of our two sedation choices. If you’re the type of person with only slight dental anxiety, you may benefit from nitrous oxide.
Our dentist will administer the nitrous oxide through a comfortable mask you slip over you nose. The mixture of gas and oxygen will produce a mild euphoric effect, but you’ll remain awake during your procedure. You may feel a slight tingling in your arms and legs, which is a normal part of the process.
The effects of nitrous oxide fade quickly after your procedure so you’ll be able to drive yourself home. This form of sedation is completely safe for children and individuals with disabilities.
Oral Conscious Sedation
If dental care causes more intense anxiety for you, we’ll most likely recommend oral conscious sedation to put you at ease. This method involves taking a small pill approximately one hour before your appointment. Our dentist will give you a prescription for the pill ahead of time that you can fill it at your favorite pharmacy.
You will feel relaxed by the time we begin your procedure. You may even feel drowsy or groggy, but you’ll most likely remain awake. Some patients, however, do fall asleep, especially if a higher dosage is prescribed. You’ll need to have someone drive you home from our office, as the effects of the pill may take a few hours to wear off.
Enjoy Our Other Amenities
To make sure your visit with us goes smooth as silk, we also offer several comforting amenities in addition to dental sedation. Feel completely at home when you take advantage of:
- Heated massage chairs in most patient rooms.
- Ceiling mounted TV’s to enjoy your favorite shows.
- Headphones for relaxing music to forget all your cares.
