Parents are always concerned about that first visit with their child. In our office, we take a little different approach. When a patient says to us, “Hey, my child is three years old or two years old and I really want to get them involved in the dental care.“ Our answer is yes, they need to be. Before they even bring their child in for their first visit, we encourage the parents to bring in their child with them during their appointment. We allow the child to sit on the ground, to color on the coloring book, and to watch what their mom or dad, their sister, their brother may be having done. For them, by the time it's their turn for their appointment on their appointed day, they've already been in our office maybe two or three times. We're not something scary and we're certainly not something foreign to them because each time at the end of those appointments they've sat in on, we allow them to sit in the chair, to lay back, to look at the ceiling, so when their appointed day comes, they're excited. They're ready for their appointment and that's a thrill to us.
What We Will Do During Your Child’s First Dental Visit
To ensure your child is comfortable with us, we will take our time to get to know them and introduce ourselves. We can even provide a fun so your little one can see some of the cool gadgets we use! So they won’t feel rushed, we’ll work at your kid’s pace!
One thing we recommend during your child’s first dental visit is for a parent or guardian to stick around during the appointment. A loved one with a reassuring smile and a hand to hold will help your little one feel more relaxed!
When it comes time to actually care for your child’s dental health, we will provide a gentle but thorough dental cleaning and exam and check for any signs of tooth decay or other oral health concerns.
Then, we will discuss any potential issues with you and recommend treatments to keep the littlest smiles in your family healthy and beautiful! We can even provide tips to discourage thumb sucking!
